Lauren discovered Club B-Fit in Des Moines, IA in 2008 and has been training there ever since. She began dancing at the age of 3 and is still continuing her training in classical ballet, hip hop and lyrical. Lauren was on the Dance Team at the University of Northern Iowa where she earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology. In Cedar Falls she coached a high school dance team and taught at an area dance studio. After college, Lauren moved back to Des Moines and earned her Masters Degree in social work from the University of Iowa. She currently enjoys her practice as a mental health therapist at an alternative high school.
As a B-FIT Pole Fitness Trainer, Lauren draws from her extensive dance background and incorporates strength, flexibility, core comprehension and flawless transitions to create magical pole, ballet and dance flow choreography. She is also a part of the B-FIT Fly Girls & Co., the performance troupe that represents the Club at public and private events.
The B-Fit studio has been a huge part of her life for many years, she loves getting to have fun while she works out, with an awesome group of people, and to continue to use dance as a way to stay in shape and continue to build strength.
When she is not working or dancing, Lauren enjoys playing with her pets, traveling, soaking up the sun, reading, riding horses and listening to her husband's band play.
Once upon a time, I enjoyed Jane Fonda workouts and dancing aerobics to the Eurythmics, and dreamed of becoming an aerobics instructor. Four children later, and all the associated child rearing activities later such as PTA Board, Girl Scouts, and (insert your own busy life calendar here), my workouts became whatever I could fit in when I could fit it in. Running at Grays Lake, workout videos at 5am, treadmills and weights at the gym replaced scheduled aerobics classes. When my children got older, I discovered Jen Kees and her incredibly fun Pole Fitness classes. Still the busy mom with a tight schedule, I bought a pole and brought it home, attending Jen's classes when I could in order to learn more and gain more strength. I was in fitness heaven!
As they say though, life happens. After injuring a hip during a series of overwhelming life events, I stopped working out altogether and gained so much weight that my health began to fail. It was a dark chapter in my life and though I tried adding exercise back into my life, nothing I did kept me inspired enough to stay consistent. Until I went back to pole fitness classes at Club B-FIT (formerly Kees Camp) where I rediscovered my love of exercise and fitness.
I added regular yoga training to my pole fitness workouts and found that even though I was now in my 40s, I was becoming the healthiest and strongest I had ever been in my life! My issues with failing health melted away along with all of the unwanted pounds. I was thrilled and I wanted to share my excitement of having energy and strength and the the joys of a healthy lifestyle. I took a year long yoga teacher training from Sandy Eimers at Balance Yoga Lounge in Ankeny. I also started training with Jen and Monica with the goal of teaching pole fitness. It was a lot of work, but I was having so much fun and feeling so much better about my self and my life!
While on the path of discovery in my fitness studies, I stumbled across aerial hammock and its beautiful combination of yoga and the aerial strength qualities of pole fitness. Monica and I trained with Becky Stella of "Aerial Play and Fitness" in St. Paul, Minnesota to achieve our instructor certifications. After the addition of aerial hammock instructor training, I have never been more excited to share my fitness fun with you all.
I cannot imagine my life without fitness related movement. If the years have taught me nothing else, I know with certainty that there are no magic programs, pills or gurus that will make a person fit and fabulous forever. To have lasting success, fitness is something that one incorporates in to their life journey. The pursuit of fitness offers its own unique challenges and payoffs depending, as so many things in life do, on what you put in to it.
Personal experience has shown me that because everyone is busy and there are never enough hours in a day, fitness goals are more attainable when they are realistic for your life and when the fitness activities are enjoyable and fun.
Running, weight lifting, Pilates, yoga, dancing, poling, Piloxing and now aerial hammock; all have been an important part of my life and my overall physical and emotional health. I have been a student, performer and instructor of Middle eastern dance for the last 17 years. I ran races and took so many different classes! I have been a certified Piloxing instructor for 2-1/2 years and in 2014 I earned my certification as an instructor of aerial hammock play and fitness!
At Club B-Fit, I invite you to share my passion for fun in fitness by trying one of our aerial hammock classes. Join me, and enjoy your workout, challenge your body and build your confidence like you never thought you could!
